John Lepore

Founding Managing Partner

John Lepore co-founded Vellir Capital in October 2018. Previously, John spent 20 years at Basso Capital, where he co-managed the U.S. research and trading desk and he was a member of the Investment Committee.

Prior to that, John was a convertible securities institutional salesperson with Forum Capital Markets. During his tenure at Forum he also served as Director of Research. Prior to that he traded North American convertible securities at McMahan Securities where he also served as Director of Research.

John received a B.A. in Economics from Holy Cross and earned an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. In addition he is a Chartered Financial Analyst.

Phil Platek

Founding Managing Partner

Phil Platek co-founded Vellir Capital in October 2018. Previously, Phil spent 20 years at Basso Capital, where he co-managed the U.S. research and trading desk, and he was a member of the Investment Committee.

Previously, Phil was Director of Research at Forum Capital Markets. Prior to that, Phil was a senior research analyst with McMahan Securities and an accountant with PriceWaterhouse.

Phil was a Certified Public Accountant and he graduated from Rutgers College with a dual degree in Economics and Accounting.

Alex Fridlyand

Managing Director

Prior to joining Vellir Capital in October 2018, Alex Fridlyand was at Basso Capital since 2017. He was responsible for originating and analyzing global convertible securities with a particular emphasis on high yield, distressed and other credit sensitive areas.

Previously, Alex was a Senior Credit Analyst at Davidson Kempner Capital Management, where he was responsible for all fundamental research and credit analysis related to the $1.5 billion global convertible and capital structure arbitrage portfolio. Prior to Davidson, Alex was a Director and research analyst on BNP Paribas’ convertible bond desk. He also served as Director and credit analyst at Access Securities focused on event driven, distressed debt and convertible securities. Alex began his career as a convertible bond trader and a proprietary portfolio manager at Morgan Stanley.

Alex received a B.A. in Ethics, Politics and Economics with distinction from Yale University.

Bryant Chin

Senior Trader

Bryant Chin joined Vellir Capital in October 2018, after working as Senior Trader for the domestic portfolio at Basso Capital since 2001 He has performed roles in research, risk and portfolio strategy. He currently trades equities and equity derivatives and manages certain day-to-day trading desk operations.

Before joining Basso, Bryant was a Vice President of Operations at AIG International Asset Management.

He holds a B.S. in Business Administration with concentrations in Finance and Marketing from the University of Richmond.
